Planned live beginner cohort · January–February 2027

Learn tax preparation live.
Get ready for tax season.

Start with no experience. Learn the profession, prepare a practice return with Kat, and build your skills through practice after class.

You don’t have to figure out the whole process alone. This planned cohort combines live teaching, guided preparation, supervised practice, and feedback—so you understand how a basic individual tax return comes together.

What will be included

  • An introduction to the tax preparation profession. Understand what preparers do, how the work fits together, and the learning steps between being new and taking on basic returns.
  • Live lessons with Kat, CPA. Learn through explanations and demonstrations, with scheduled opportunities to ask questions when a concept or screen is unfamiliar.
  • The foundations of basic individual returns. Build working knowledge of the return’s structure, filing status, client documents, income, deductions, credits, and the information you need to request.
  • Prepare a practice return with Kat live. Follow a fictional client case from the source documents through the preparation workflow. Understand the reason for the entries, rather than simply copying them.
  • Practice after classes. Apply what you learned through assignments and practice returns. Revisit the steps, identify missing information, and bring questions back to the live sessions.
  • Supervised practice and feedback. Get guidance as you work toward a consistent preparation process and learn which issues need a reviewer’s attention.
  • Recordings and continued course access. Rewatch the lessons during the cohort and after the live training ends. The exact access period will be confirmed before enrollment.
  • Kat’s review of a few first returns after training. Receive early-return review to help you spot mistakes, understand corrections, and improve your process. The number of returns, eligible return types, and review window will be stated in the offer.
  • A clearer next step for tax season. Learn how to assess your readiness, what to keep practicing, and when to seek help before accepting work beyond your experience.

Your January–February 2027 learning plan

Learn live: attend the scheduled sessions and prepare a practice return alongside Kat.

Practice between classes: work through the assignments, revisit recordings, and note your questions.

Keep building after training: continue using the course material and use the included early-return review within the confirmed review window.

Learning and professional requirements

Paid federal return preparers generally need their own current PTIN. State requirements can also apply. Training does not replace registration, licensing, or the supervision appropriate to your experience.
